Keep access clear, respect private property and working lands, and treat a road through a place as part of someone's home.
Let wildlife keep its distance.
Secure food, control pets, and reduce noise and light near places where animals feed, nest, rest, and move.
Leave the view unclaimed.
Make room for quiet, other visitors, and the next person's experience. A pin shares a location; it grants no claim.
Make room for joy.
Preparation and care make room to stay curious, welcome the unexpected, and have a wonderful time out there.
Before I follow a pin
Four things I check first.
- Check who manages the land.Openings, permits, closures, and local guidance can change long after a photograph was made.
- Know the day's limits.Carry current navigation, water, weather information, and enough daylight. Turning around is part of traveling well.
- Camp on already-disturbed ground.Keep access clear, stay quiet, and leave room for others. Use a developed campground when conditions make it the better choice.
- Let conditions say no.Mud, fire, flooding, wildlife, ceremony, restoration, damaged roads, or a local request can change the day.
